Description

9 Brighton Street in Edinburgh is a plain, classical tenement building dating from around 1821. It stands five storeys high and features twelve bays arranged in two groups of six. The façade is constructed of ashlar stone, polished at the ground level and droved above, with rubble on the gable ends. Notable architectural details include a base course, a band course between the ground and first floors, an eaves cornice, and projecting cills.

The building has timber panelled doors with margined fanlights, and there is an additional door in the outer left bay, which may have been a former pend. The windows are timber sash and case, with twelve panes of glazing. The roof is double pitched and covered with grey slates, featuring straight ashlar skews, corniced ridge stacks, and an end stack that has been rebuilt in brick with cylindrical clay cans.
