Description
The building is a manse located at 19 Abercorn Road in Edinburgh, designed by Arthur George Sydney Mitchell in 1894. It is a two-storey, two-bay structure with an asymmetrical design, rendered exterior, and decorative applied timbering on the gables. The roofs are swept and feature timber barge boarding.
On the northeast elevation, there is a penticed-roof canted window on the left at ground level, with a tripartite window above it. The right bay has bipartite windows. The northwest elevation displays asymmetrical fenestration, with an advanced gable-ended section in the center bay. A catslide roof extends to the northeast, forming a porch supported by a single timber post, leading to a timber panelled door accessed through the original decorative timber gate.
The southwest elevation features an advanced gable on the left with a four-light canted window on the first floor, while the rest of the fenestration is irregular. There is a bracketed timber balcony on the right side. The windows predominantly have four-pane upper sashes and two-pane lower sashes. The roof is covered with grey-green slates and red terracotta ridge tiles, and there are tall rendered corniced stacks with tall circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 2002. The property is enclosed by a boundary wall made of ashlar-coped rubble, which steps down the hill to the northwest and northeast, topped with plain cast-iron railings on the northwest side only.
