Airlie Lodge, 5, 5A Whitehouse Terrace, Edinburgh

Airlie Lodge is a villa built around 1860, featuring two storeys and an irregular plan, with a service wing at the rear and a later recessed wing to the west. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked sandstone, accented with polished ashlar dressings. It has a dividing course and overhanging eaves.

The south elevation facing Whitehouse Terrace has three bays, with the recessed wing to the west. It includes a full-height, four-light canted window that is swept at the gablehead, which also features a square tablet. There are single windows on both floors in the remaining bays. The two-storey and attic recessed wing has a gabletted dormer.

The east entrance elevation showcases a gabled porch. The windows are 6-pane sash and case style. The roof is gabled and covered with grey-brown slate, featuring tall shouldered and corniced gablehead stacks with chamfered angles and moulded octagonal cans.

The interior was not seen in 1991. The property also includes corniced polygonal gatepiers, with a slapping raised over the pedestrian gateway to the east of the carriage entrance. High coped rubble boundary and mutual walls surround the property.
