Description
The Sentry Pavilions and Gates, designed by Auldjo Jamieson and Arnott in 1932, are a pair of single-storey square plan neo-Georgian sentry lodges featuring bull's eye windows. They are connected by ornamental ironwork railing, gateposts, and gates in a late 17th century style, crafted by Thomas Hadden. The pavilions are constructed from cream ashlar sandstone and include a deep base course and an eaves course. They are located at the north entrance to the Astley Ainslie hospital site. Notable architectural features include distinctive key-stoned window and door openings, with timber and glazed doors that are partly blocked. The lodges are topped with pantiled pyramidal roofs.
