Description
15 Montpelier is a five-storey, five-bay tenement building designed by Edward Calvert in 1888, featuring Scottish 17th century architectural details. The structure is made of coursed and snecked cream sandstone with ashlar dressings. It has a cill course on the first floor, incised lintels, and a bracketed cill course on the second floor, along with an eaves band. The central entrance includes a door with a rectangular fanlight that has border glazing, and there is a blank bay above it with T-section ashlar and rubble banded stacks that feature roundel motifs corbelled from the second floor. The attic windows are adorned with ornamental finialled dormerheads, and the canted windows are corbelled to square decorative gable-headed dormers. The building has plate glass set in timber sash and case windows, a green slate roof with lead flashings, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
