The Old Smithy, 606 Old Dalkeith Road, Edinburgh

The Old Smithy is a pair of single-storey over basement terraced cottages from the early to mid-19th century, located on Old Dalkeith Road in Edinburgh. These cottages are built into a slope, with a two-storey section at the rear. They feature random rubble construction with ashlar dressings and have three bays, including a central door flanked by windows with modern glazing. There is a lean-to addition at the basement level against one gable. The roof is covered with grey slates and has ashlar coped skews, along with end and mutual stacks that have a simple cornice. To the south is the former smithy, which is a square rubble building with double doors facing the road and a felt-covered piended roof.
