Sunnyside Cottages

Sunnyside Cottages is a row of ten single-storey cottages built in 1856 by Peddie and Kinnear in Edinburgh. The cottages are constructed from squared red sandstone with grey sandstone ashlar dressings.

The south elevation features 24 bays, with larger single bays that project as gabled outer wings. There are eight doorways, each with heavy consoled slab hoods and flanked by windows. The right wing has a later flat-roofed addition in the re-entrant angle, while there is a single window to the left in the same angle. The two central cottages have four windows in gabled slated dormers for the attic.

On the north elevation, there are eight doorways with flanking windows, although some openings have been blocked or enlarged. The cottages have sash and case windows with an 8-pane glazing pattern. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and the gables feature ashlar coped skews with bracketed gablet skewputts and gablet finials at the gableheads. There are ashlar coped gable end and ridge stacks, along with some additional wallhead brick stacks at the rear.
