Former St Andrew's Works Front Block, 7-17 and 21-23 Sinclair Place, Excluding Interiors

The Former St Andrew's Works Front Block, located at 7-17 and 21-23 Sinclair Place, was constructed around 1893-1897 and extended in 1931 by Alister MacDonald. This building is a 37-bay, one and two-storey office block that is set on sloping ground, featuring three two-storey Dutch gables that divide the facade into three sections. It is built from squared and snecked bull-nosed cream sandstone, accented with red long and short ashlar dressings and moulded arises. A continuous band course links the upper floor windows, and there is an eaves band course as well. The windows are regularly spaced, consisting of 15-pane timber sash and case designs.

The main entrance features a doorway flanked by fluted Tuscan pilasters, which support a segmental pediment adorned with a shell tympanum. At the upper floor level, the door is flanked by larger windows, while smaller windows are present at the basement and ground levels. To the right, there is an 11-bay, slightly recessed single-storey section that was added in 1931. The south gable end has a piended roof with a square section red ashlar gatepier attached.

The roof is covered with grey slate, featuring moulded red ashlar skews, and is equipped with cast iron gutters and downpipes.

This building is the last remaining structure from the former McVities, Guest and Co's biscuit factory, which was established in the late 19th century. The factory was once a large complex with multiple buildings that occupied the extensive site to the southwest. Most of the factory site has since been redeveloped into residential flats since the late 1990s.
