Description
24 Forth Street in Edinburgh is a classical terraced house designed by Robert Burn in 1800. It is a three-storey building with a mansard attic and a basement, featuring a three-bay façade made of painted droved sandstone ashlar. The ground floor has a cill band, while the first floor boasts a full-width decorative iron balcony. The building is topped with a cornice and blocking course, and the entrance is highlighted by platts that oversail the basement. The doorpiece is pilastered and corniced, adorned with decorative capitals and a rosette motif.
The south elevation facing Forth Street features a broad tripartite doorway with a timber panelled door. To the left, there is a segmental-arched fanlight, with windows in the bays remaining. Above, the fenestration is regular, and the mansard roof includes three dormer windows. The windows are timber sash and case with predominantly four-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there is a gablehead stack with a terracotta can, along with decorative cast-iron railings.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
