Description

30 Forth Street is a two-storey terraced corner tenement building with a mansard attic and basement, designed by Robert Burn in 1800. It features a bowed corner bay and is constructed from sandstone ashlar. The building has a base course, a band course between the floors, and a cill band with blind balustrade ashlar aprons. The eaves cornice and blocking course are prominent, along with a columned and corniced doorpiece that has decorative capitals and a rosette motif. The entrance platts oversail the basement.

On the south elevation facing Forth Street, there is a broad tripartite timber panelled door with a round-arched fanlight featuring radial glazing in the third bay. The windows in the remaining bays are regular, with dormer windows in the attic, and a bipartite window to the left. The bowed corner has windows on each floor to the left, while the windows to the right are blinded for symmetry. Dormers are positioned above.

The east side elevation has a pilastered and corniced doorpiece to the left, with a small window just above. A window is blocked for symmetry to the right, and the regular fenestration above is also blocked for symmetry. There is a small bipartite box dormer above, and a wall-head stack that is swept at the base.

The building features timber sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing, grey slate roofing, a wallhead stack with a terracotta can, skews, and cast iron railings. The interior was not seen in 1998.
