Description
25 and 27 Salisbury Road is a classical house built around 1815, featuring two storeys and five bays with a near-symmetrical design. It has a single-storey wing on the west side that is original, while a modern single-storey wing has been added to the east. The exterior is made of droved cream sandstone ashlar, with polished ashlar on the advanced central bays of the main block, rubble on the sides and rear, and brick for the modern extensions. The building includes a base course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, a cornice, and a blocking course that is raised at the center above the advanced bays. There are cast-iron window guards on the first floor featuring stylized palmettes, and projecting cills on the ground floor windows.
On the south (entrance) elevation, the four-bay block has two central bays that are advanced, with the fifth bay on the outer right recessed. The doorway is set in a round-arched panel on the penultimate left, featuring a modern two-leaf door with reinforced glass panels and a two-light fanlight above. There is a single window above the door and to the outer right, which is also recessed. The ground floor window flanking the door on the outer right is set in a round-arched panel, with single windows in the flanking bays and the fifth bay on the outer right. There is a blind, round-arched panel on the single-storey wing.
The windows are six-pane timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, with coped wallhead stacks and moulded cans.
The boundary walls consist of a low coursed and coped wall along the street with replacement railings. There are tall, octagonal gate piers at the east gate and the outer angle of the boundary wall to the west.
