Description

The former fire station at 79 Angle Park Terrace in Edinburgh was designed by Robert Morham and built between 1894 and 1900. This asymmetrical single-storey and attic building features seven bays, a swept roof, barge-boarded eaves, and three gables with finials facing the street. To the outer right, there is a single-bay gabled structure. The building is constructed from squared and snecked bull-faced red sandstone with polished dressings, and includes a base course and a bracketed eaves cornice. Notable architectural details include long and short quoins and timbered panels in the gables.

On the northwest elevation facing Angle Park Terrace, the gabled structure on the outer right has a two-leaf door. There are full-height glazed timber doors in two bays to the outer right, and two slightly projecting gabled bays in the center. The left gable features a date stone from 1895, while the right has a segmental-arched tripartite window and a door to the left. A canted window with a chamfered surround is located in the left gabled bay, and there is a tripartite opening in the wall to the outer left. The windows are fitted with small-pane glazing, and the building has cast-iron downpipes with decorative hoppers. The roof is covered with greenish slates, with tiles on the rear, and features terracotta ridge tiles. A corniced ashlar chimney stalk with a circular can is present on the rear gable.
