5 Greenhill Terrace, Edinburgh

5 Greenhill Terrace is a later 19th century, two-storey and attic terrace consisting of 12 two-bay villas, featuring distinctive Frenchfield dormers on the mansard roof. The buildings are dressed in yellow sandstone ashlar, with a base course, a dividing band course, and bracketed cills as part of the cill course, along with a cornice. The window surrounds have fillet-moulding and are segmental-arched, including those in the dormers. Number 1 has pilaster quoins and long and short quoins at the first floor.

The principal elevation faces south, with each villa featuring an architraved segmental-arched doorpiece in the outer left bay, complete with a keystone and carved consoles that support a projecting cornice. Above the door, there is a single window in the attic dormer. To the outer right, there is a full-height canted window that rises into a swept French pavilion dormer above. The windows are plate glass sash and case. The roofs are covered with grey slate, featuring lead flashing, a coped mutual wall, and moulded eaves guttering, with some original rainwater goods still in place.

The interiors were not seen in 1991. The property is enclosed by low coped rubble boundary walls along the street, complemented by cast-iron railings, which are obscured by hedges, as well as gatepiers and gates.
