Description

This is a church constructed in 1890, built in a plain Gothic style. It is situated in Kilchattan Bay on the Isle of Bute. The church has a symmetrical, rectangular plan with a prominent gable facing northeast, designed in a "nave-and-aisles" layout. Later additions have been made to the rear of the building.

The church is primarily built from squared and snecked tooled red sandstone, with red ashlar dressings. The rear and sides are of harl-pointed random rubble sandstone, again with red rubble quoins and stone surrounds to the openings.

The northeast elevation (front) features steps leading to a recessed, two-leaf timber panelled door, flanked by bipartite windows. Above the door, a geometric-traceried rose window is set within a pointed arch. A tripartite louvred opening sits at the gable apex, topped by a sculpted finial. Flanking buttresses are present at the gable ends, with decorative openings in the outer bays.

The southeast and northwest sides each have five bays with regularly placed windows, with a gableted belfry featuring a bell on the southeast side. Later harled additions extend beyond the original structure on both sides. The southwest (rear) elevation showcases a pointed-arched tripartite window in the gable, a louvred opening at the apex, and piended, pitched additions projecting forward.

The majority of windows have stained and leaded glazing, with several skylights in the rear additions. The roofs are covered in graded grey slate, with raised stone skewputts and replacement rainwater goods. A stone stack with circular cans is located on the southwest side.

The interior features boarded timber dado panelling in the vestibule. The nave has timber pews and panelled doors, along with a gallery beneath the rose window containing blind, panelled balustrading. Decorative foliate capitals adorn columns, and there is a timber panelled pulpit, an octagonal baptismal font, and a timber lectern. A boarded timber roof covers the later hall at the rear.

A boundary wall with harl-pointed rubble and polished coping runs along the street, punctuated by square gatepiers with quatrefoil details. Wrought-iron gates and replacement railings complete the enclosure.
