Description

Dhuhill, located at 127 Sinclair Street in Helensburgh, is a possibly mid-19th century villa attributed to James Smith. This two-storey, three-bay symmetrical building features classical details and is harled, with the entrance elevation rendered and lined to resemble ashlar. It has a base course, quoin strips, overhanging bracketed eaves, and architraved windows.

On the south (entrance) elevation, there is a timber pilastered doorpiece at the center, which includes two-leaf panelled doors and a half-glazed vestibule door. The doorway is flanked by advanced tripartite windows that support and are linked by a decorative iron balcony, creating a porch effect. The first floor has three windows.

The west (side) elevation features two widely grouped windows at both the ground and first floors. There is a two-storey wing on the outer left and a gabled porch on the right, with two small windows to the left and two windows at the first floor. The gabled return to the north includes two windows at the ground level.

On the north (rear) elevation, there is a stair window at the center of the first floor and another window to the left. A single-storey wing adjoins the northeast angle, gabled to the south, with three windows on the east elevation and a gabled bay at the center.

Most of the windows are four-pane sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and features corniced ashlar stacks.

Inside, there is a curved stair with an iron balustrade.

The gatepiers and flanking walls consist of ashlar piers with stop-chamfered angles and pyramidal caps, lower rubble quadrant walls, and ashlar coping.
