Description
South Quay at Keills Port is an 1821 structure that may have been engineered by Thomas Telford, built by the Parliamentary Commissioners for Highland Roads and Bridges. This quay is designed in an L-shape, hugging the rock edge at the corner of a small natural harbour inlet, and it slopes evenly downwards towards the sea. The quay is constructed from coursed rubble, with the top course set vertically and featuring narrow edges facing outward, interlocked diagonally at an angle. There are iron runner ties at the edges, which may have been added later, and wrought iron tying rings, some of which are now missing.
