The Corner, Lineside Walk, Rhu

Auchengare is a mid-19th century, two-storey, three-bay gabled villa located on Station Road in Rhu. The building has a rambling plan that includes a gabled verandah porch and a northeast wing that now serves as a separate dwelling. It is constructed from sandstone and whinstone rubble, featuring ashlar margins and dressings, with projecting eaves, exposed rafters, and brackets.

The southwest garden elevation is nearly symmetrical and features a bowed, five-light window on the outer right, a square bay window on the outer left, and a bipartite window at the center, with a relieving arch above. The first floor has bipartite windows symmetrically arranged, which break the eaves in the gablehead. There is a lower timber verandah porch on the outer right, which is gabled with a trellised base and is now glazed in.

The southeast entrance elevation is single-storey with a gabled trellised porch that has also been glazed in. Steps lead up to the gabled entrance, which has a modern door. To the left was formerly an open verandah, and to the right is a gabled rubble bay. The main block behind is three bays wide, with an advanced broad bay to the left and a window at the gablehead, while lower gables are found to the right. There is a timber tripartite window on the ground outer right.

At the rear, the kitchen court, now known as "The Corner," features gatepiers with pyramidal caps leading into the court and a lean-to garage on the right. A covered stair is located to the left against the rear M-gable of the house. The right wing has been much altered, with a raised roof and new openings.

The northwest elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing a three-bay main block with an advanced three-bay wing to the northeast. The outer right has a broad gable with a shouldered basement door and a window immediately to the left, along with a window in the gablehead. The middle bay has an off-centre gable to the right and an off-centre window to the left on the ground floor. The left side features a broad bay with a picture window at ground level, which was likely originally a bipartite window, and a single window at the gablehead. The advanced block to the northeast has three bays, two symmetrical gabled dormerheads, a door at the center on the ground floor, and a broader gabled bay on the outer left with a bipartite window, along with a half-piend, single-storey addition at ground level.

The villa has plate glass sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and coped, shouldered ridge stacks.

The gatepiers are made of plain painted sandstone with shallow, corniced caps, and there are spear-leaded railings. The interior was not seen in 1993.
