Description
Giffnock, located at 150-152 Princes Street East in Helensburgh, is an early 19th-century villa that stands two stories over a basement and features a symmetrical three-bay design. The exterior is constructed from squared, stugged, snecked grey, pink, and cream sandstone with ashlar dressings. Notable architectural details include raised margins around the windows, an eaves course, a cornice, and quoin strips.
The west (entrance) elevation showcases a centrally located doorway that is architraved and corniced, set above a flight of steps flanked by decorative wrought-iron railings. The entrance features a fanlit panelled door, with corniced windows on either side. The first floor has three windows.
On the north (side) elevation, there is a narrow window positioned off-centre to the left at both the ground and first floors, with an attic window located off-centre to the right. The east (rear) elevation displays an asymmetrical arrangement of windows, with a central architraved and corniced doorway leading to a fanlit door, and a stair window above. The outer bays also contain windows, and there is a screen wall abutting to the left below the bays, featuring a timber porch in the re-entrant angle. The south (side) elevation mirrors the arrangement of the north elevation.
The villa is fitted with 12-pane sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof, with ashlar coped skews and coped sandstone stacks at the gables, complete with moulded cans.
The lodge, which is a single-storey structure with three bays, is built from stugged, snecked grey and pink sandstone with ashlar dressings. It features raised margins, an eaves course, and quoin strips. The west (entrance) elevation includes a fanlit boarded door at the centre, flanked by windows, and 12-pane sash and case windows. The lodge also has a grey slate roof with ashlar coped skews and coped ashlar stacks with moulded cans.
The boundary wall and piers are made of ashlar coped stugged and snecked pink and grey sandstone, topped with ashlar pyramidal piers.
