Description

Courthill is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with a raised basement located on Kilkerran Road in Campbeltown. The building features a classical design with a symmetrical front and a single-storey wing that projects from the northwest elevation. To the southeast, there is a two-storey coach house connected by a wall. The exterior has roughcast walls accented with polished ashlar dressings, a band course above the basement, and an eaves course. The windows have raised margins and projecting cills.

On the north elevation facing Kilkerran Road, there is a stone stair leading to a recessed entrance door at the centre of the principal floor, which is accessed via wrought-iron handrails supported by a stugged ashlar arch. The entrance is framed by a stone pilastered doorpiece with a cornice and blocking course above. The single-bay wing on the outer right has a modern basement opening with a slit window to the left, a bipartite window with a hoodmould at the principal floor, and a crenellated parapet. The basement recesses on the principal and side elevations have roughcast walls with ashlar copes, and square ashlar piers with bases and domed caps are symmetrically placed at the corners.

The windows are timber sash and case, with 16 panes in the basement and 12 panes in the principal openings of the ground and first floors. The entrance door is a four-panel, two-leaf timber door topped with a rectangular fanlight. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a piended design, along with cast-iron gutters and downpipes. The chimney stacks are made of coped ashlar with roughcast sides and circular cans.

The coach house is a single-storey structure with a wall projecting to the outer left, featuring a garden door at the centre that connects to a rectangular coach house. The classical entrance on the northeast elevation is offset to the right and includes a segmental-arched opening framed by strip pilasters, with a band course, cornice, and blocking course above.

The boundary walls consist of a random rubble wall with an ashlar cope on the east and west sides, and a rough saddleback cope along Kilkerran Road. Square ashlar gatepiers at the northern corner are corniced with domed caps, leading to two-leaf steel gates.
