Description

18th and earlier-mid 19th century. 2-storey, 3-bay asymmetrical terraced house of L-plan with apsidal stair tower to rear in re-entrant angle. Roughcast walls with painted ashlar dressings.

NE (KIRK STREET) ELEVATION: base course, pilastered and corniced painted ashlar doorpiece at centre, smaller windows at lower ground and 1st floor levels in bay to outer right.

SW (REAR) ELEVATION: round stair tower at centre abutted to left by advanced 2-storey section with lower eaves, further lean-to addition at ground; rectangular window at 1st bay, 1st floor, stair window in tower.

Timber sash and case windows, 12-pane at centre and left bay of Kirk Street elevation with 4-pane at bay to right. 12-pane at right bay of rear elevation (casement at ground floor) with 6-pane at stair and 6-pane casement in bay to left. 6-panel timber door with 3-pane fanlight above, 2-panel inner door with 2 round-arched glazed upper and 2-pane fanlight above. Grey slate roof, timber piend-roofed slate-hung dormer with 12-pane timber sash and case window, breaking eaves at right bay of Kirk Street elevation. Cat-slide roof to stair tower with lead gutter. Cast-iron gutters elsewhere, profiled at rear and cast-iron downpipes. Rendered and coped 4-flue stack centring ridge with circular cans.

INTERIOR: former kitchen to right of entrance, accessed by vertically-boarded timber door in vestibule. Round-arched niche in hall, timber spiral stair in tower at rear, egg-finialled newel at centre with adjacent balustrade with cast-iron balusters. Timber upper stair to attic, 4-panel doors. 6-panel timber doors and panelled timber shutters at ground and 1st floors. Coved ceiling to former drawing room at 1st floor.
