Description
Rhinns Of Islay Lighthouse, located on Orsay in Islay, was built in 1825 by engineer Robert Stevenson. The lighthouse is constructed from rubble and consists of a tower with five stages, featuring string courses. It houses a dioptric flashing light designed by Barbier and Bernard in Paris in 1896. Inside, there is a cast-iron turnpike stair and a round-ended vestibule at the ground floor, topped with a platform roof. The lighthouse is flanked by two keeper houses, which are Georgian in style, single-storey, also made of rubble, and have flat lead roofs with octagonal chimneys.
