Description
Buchan Ness Lighthouse, built by Robert Stevenson between 1824 and 1827, stands 118 feet high with a tapered circular tower made of coursed granite. The tower features gothic corbelling below the gallery and cupola, and it is painted white with a red band. Inside, there is a cantilever spiral staircase. At the base of the lighthouse on the west side, there is a concentric semi-circle of buildings that form a five-window bow, complete with a cornice and a blocking course. The buildings have two octagonal chimneys and a flat roof. A flat-lintelled doorway connects to symmetrical wings, which include a two-window section to the west and a two-window section with a central door in the courtyard.
