Description
Cape Wrath Lighthouse, designed by Robert Stevenson in 1828, features a circular tower made of whitewashed tooled granite. The tower has a corbelled balcony with a cast-iron balustrade surrounding the light. At the base of the lighthouse is a single-storey semi-circular building.
In front of the lighthouse is a single-storey range of 2-3 keepers' cottages, designed in an Egyptian style, which have advanced porches and are also constructed from whitewashed tooled granite. These cottages have tall stacks and flat roofs. They are connected to the lighthouse by low retaining walls that create a small courtyard. The entire area is further enclosed by an outer perimeter wall made of coped rubble, which contains a later range of single-storey cottages and a service building.
