Description
The building at Hynish Farm is an early 19th-century farm steading. It consists of a long, simple byre/store connected by a low stone wall to smaller, symmetrical stables and a cartshed, arranged in an L-shape. The structure features low wallheads and openings that are set close to the eaves. It is constructed from random rubble with slaister pointing and has pitched roofs covered in West Highland grey slates, although the roof on the northeast side of the byre/store has partially deteriorated as of 2003.
The byre/store has three evenly spaced doorways on its northeast elevation, an opening in the southeast gable wall, and a single door on the southwest elevation, along with numerous rooflights on the northeast side. The stable and cartshed include two segmentally headed cart openings on the northwest elevation of the cartshed, one of which is now blocked, and flanking doors that lead to the stables, with a rooflight above the left stable. Some timber boarded doors are still present.
