Description

Inverallt is a single-storey and attic Arts and Crafts cottage designed by Eric A Sutherland in 1900. The building has an asymmetrical rectangular plan and features a later conservatory porch entrance on the northwest side. The exterior is finished with white-painted harl and red sandstone dressings, highlighted by a crowstepped gable on the northwest elevation and exposed rafters.

The northwest elevation has three irregular bays, with an advanced crowstepped gable on the outer right. There is an obliquely projecting bipartite window at the corner, which has a timber mullion, a battered base, and a bracketed timber canopy. A similar window is located at the corner of the southwest elevation. At the gablehead, there is a symmetrically disposed bipartite window. The entrance is centrally located and has been glazed in with a lean-to timber conservatory; the base retains the original harled wall with a semicircular rubble coping, and steps are located at the right return. To the outer left, there is a two-storey, canted, engaged, battlemented bastion with red sandstone coping, featuring symmetrically disposed windows at both the ground and first floors on each facet.

The southwest elevation showcases a broad gable with an obliquely projecting bipartite window at the outer left corner, mirroring the window on the northwest elevation. This window also features a timber mullion, a bracketed canopy, and a battered base. There are two grouped windows off-centre to the right at ground level and three grouped windows slightly off-centre to the left at the gablehead, with timber eaves.

On the southeast elevation, there are three asymmetrical bays. A small window is located at the ground in the outer left bay, while a large stair window, which breaks the eaves, is positioned above (this window is sash and case with a bordered glazing pattern). To the right of centre, there is a window at the principal floor, and a small window is found in the outer right. An off-centre timber gabled dormer is present to the right, along with an asymmetrical, half-shouldered stack to the right and small skylights.

The northeast elevation features an asymmetrical gable with a door and narrow paired plate glass windows at the ground left, and a larger window at the outer right. There are two off-centre windows at the gable, along with an arrowslit at the gablehead. A semi-buttressed, slightly projecting flue stack is located to the outer right.

The windows throughout the building are six-pane over plate glass sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and has lead flashings, while the stacks are tall and made of red sandstone ashlar with coping. The interior was not seen in 1993.
