Shelter, Cabbie's Rest, Mid Pier

Cabbie's Rest Shelter at Mid Pier is a single-storey, 10-bay cast-iron structure designed by Alexander Stephen in 1930. It features a glazed roof and was relocated from West Pier to Mid Pier in 2010. This shelter served as the taxi cab staging area for visitors arriving in Rothesay by steamer.

The shelter has a rectangular plan and is supported by 22 equally-disposed cast-iron columns. It includes riveted cast-iron trusses with curving collar-braces and an opaque-glazed piended roof. Decorative cast-iron friezes adorn the east, north, and south elevations. The west elevation features half-engaged columns with infill panels and 8-pane tripartite glazing. Ornamental cast-iron finials are present on the north and south sides.

The former cabbie's office/store located at West Pier is a 3-bay, square-plan cast-iron building with a raised plinth and engaged corner columns. It has a door on the west side and a multi-pane margin-light glazing pattern with opaque multi-coloured stained glass.
