Description
The County Offices on Market Street in Forfar were originally built as a county prison by David Smith between 1842 and 1843. The building was converted into offices by John Carver after the prison closed in 1883, and the gatehouse was demolished in 1884. The structure is two stories with an attic and features coursed rubble. It has square, three-story battlemented angle towers with tall corbelled angle rounds. The central section includes a narrow three-story bay with a twin shaft chimney. There are also modern additions to the building. Additionally, there is a small mansion house associated with the farm steading nearby.
