Description
10 Panmure Street in Brechin is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed in 1895 by D and J R Macmillan as a Post Office. It features a Free Renaissance style with some non-period elements. The front is made of ashlar stone, while the sides are constructed from snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and a string course at the first floor level.
The façade facing Panmure Street has four windows and three dormers. The ground floor is characterized by Ionic pilasters that are one-third fluted, with original shop fronts. Number 8 has a recessed door and shop window, while number 10 features an Ionic columned doorpiece with a scrolled pediment set at a splayed angle, along with two shop windows that face both Panmure Street and Martin's Lane, the latter lacking pilasters.
The first-floor windows have architraves with cornices, and the dormers are semi-elliptically arched, adorned with compound roll scrolled and triangular pediments set in deep parapets. There is a three-light canted corner bay on the first floor. The gable facing Martin's Lane includes a single first-floor window and a scrolled chimney gablet above, which has a bipartite window. The roof is slated.
