8 Mount Road, Montrose

This is a later 19th-century, two-storey and attic, double-fronted tenement featuring tympany gables. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar with a band course above the ground floor on the east side, and has chamfered margins.

On the west elevation, there is a stone forestair leading to tripartite entrances on the first floor, which include three rectangular fanlights and modern doors, all topped by a uniting cornice and a crowstepped tympany gable. Flanking windows are present, with a small additional window to the left. The roof features two gabled dormers and an additional flat-roofed dormer offset to the right.

The east elevation has a bipartite entrance at ground level with rectangular fanlights and modern doors, along with a cornice. Above, there is a blocked window centered on the first floor and a crowstepped tympany gable. The flanking bays include a stone-mullioned bipartite window at ground level and two windows on the first floor. A canted dormer is located to the right, with a modern flat-roofed dormer to the left.

The north and south elevations are gable ends. The ground floor on the east side features four-pane timber sash and case windows, while plate glass or replacements are used elsewhere. The roof is pitched with grey slate and has stone-coped skews and bracketed skewputts. The gablehead and tympany stacks are made of multi-chromatic brick and have a full complement of polygonal cans.

The boundary walls and gatepiers consist of squared rubble walls on the east and west that enclose the garden. The Mount Street entrance features square section gate piers with pyramidal caps, and there are additional square section gate piers on the east side.
