Description
The Parsonage at Glamis Castle is a two-storey estate house built in the mid to late 19th century, designed in the style of Burn & Bryce. The exterior features narrow bands of rock-faced ashlar with stugged margins and a chamfered base course. Notable architectural elements include a round-headed stair window, corbels, deeply chamfered arrises, and stone mullions.
On the southeast elevation, there is a broad advanced gable with a further advanced canted tripartite window at the ground level. Above this, a corbel supports outer lights that lead to moulded panels flanking the first-floor window. The gablehead features a blind panel with a pendant finial and a ball and spike finial.
The southwest elevation has an advanced gable at the center, with a bipartite window at the ground and another window above. To the right, there is a gabled porch in the re-entrant angle, which includes a narrow window and a timber door. A recessed bay to the right has a first-floor window that breaks the eaves into a dormer gablehead. To the left of the center, there are two bays, each with a ground and first-floor window that also breaks the eaves into dormer gableheads.
On the northeast elevation, the advanced center bay contains a bipartite window at the ground and another window above. The bay to the left is slightly recessed, featuring a small window at the ground and a round-headed stair window above. There is also a further recessed blank bay to the outer right. A bay to the right of center has a slightly recessed single-storey section with a small window and a lean-to roof, leading to a blind gable with a straddled stack. The outer right has a further recessed broad gable with a window on each floor.
The northwest elevation includes a gabled bay to the right of center with a single-storey projection at the ground level. To the left, there is a slightly recessed bay with a boarded timber door and a plate glass fanlight below a small first-floor window.
The windows are timber sash and case with 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates, and the shouldered ashlar stacks have battered coping and some cans. The building features plain bargeboarding with deeply overhanging eaves and decorative timber finials, along with cast-iron downpipes and decorative rainwater hoppers.
