Description
Grey Harlings is a former hotel built in the late 19th century and around 1920. It features an unusual design with multiple gables that rise in a crescendo, creating an asymmetrical appearance in both plan and elevation. The building consists of single-storey, two-storey, and attic sections.
The principal elevation faces east and advances from left to right. It has three two-storey gables on the right side, a Tudor arched gateway at the ground level with wrought-iron gates and large two-leaf panelled doors behind it, and two canted oriel windows on the first floor. To the left, there is a single-storey and attic section with a verandah and a jettied gable. The windows are timber-mullioned and bipartite.
The northeast elevation features a two-storey wing with a gabled projection offset to the left. The southeast elevation is a single-storey and attic end with piended dormers. The west elevation has a complex arrangement of gables and projecting wings.
The building has timber sash and case windows with plate glass. The roofs are covered with grey slate, with the southern roofs featuring scalloped and diamond tiles arranged in patterned courses. Harled ridge stacks are present.
Surrounding the property are boundary walls made of timber 'stake' walls on the east, south, and west sides.
