Description

Woodburn is a late 18th century, two-storey and attic, three-bay rectangular-plan house located on a corner site that completes a long terrace to the west in Stonehaven's New Town. The building features ashlar stonework with cherry caulking and finely droved ashlar margins, which display masons' marks.

The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a late 20th century gabled porch in the centre bay at ground level, with a panelled timber door behind it. There are windows in the flanking bays, although the left window is out of alignment. Above, there are two windows close to the eaves and two canted dormer windows.

The east elevation has a gabled design with a window that has been altered from a door at ground level, and another window in the centre above it. A small attic window is present, leading to a prominent broad gablehead stack.

The north elevation, facing Cameron Street, features a tall narrow stair window off-centre to the right, with additional windows in the outer bays at both ground and first floors. A small modern rooflight is located in the centre.

The windows have a non-traditional sash and case effect, with multi-pane glazing in the stair window. The roof is covered with small grey slates, and there are tall coped ashlar stacks topped with thackstanes and polygonal cans, along with ashlar-coped skews.

Inside, some early details have been preserved, including moulded cornices, a sideboard alcove, six-panelled doors with architraves, dado rails, and a cantilevered dog-leg staircase with plain timber balusters.

The property is enclosed by high flat-coped rubble and harl boundary walls. Additionally, there is a rubble ancillary building, referred to as a cool house, built against the boundary wall, featuring a stone flag floor and an unglazed opening.
