West Cottage, Waterside, Carnousie House Policies

West Cottage, located on the Carnousie House policies near Waterside, is a mid-19th century cottage that was modified around 1880 to match the style of the adjacent East Cottage. It is a single-story structure with an attic, originally featuring three bays and situated beside the River Deveron. The cottage is constructed of rubble with dressings of Turriff sandstone. A door is positioned on the south side, flanked by windows at ground level. There are single windows at the rear, with two later, gabled wooden dormers projecting from the attic. The windows are casement type and have lying-pane glazing. The roof is covered with renewed purple slates, with bracketed eaves to the gables, clay ridge tiles, and coped stacks.

The cottage was in poor condition in 1993. It was likely used as a fishing bothy, alongside its neighbor, East Cottage, which is listed separately. The buildings are visible on the Ordnance Survey map of the area; it is likely they were associated with the laundry for Carnousie House, which was formerly situated to the northeast, as shown on the 1959 Ordnance Survey map of Banffshire.
