4 Ardley Terrace Including Ancillary Building And Boundary Wall

2 Ardley Terrace, including an ancillary building and boundary wall, dates from the earlier to mid 19th century. This short terrace consists of four (formerly five) single-storey and attic cottages arranged in a rectangular plan, located on a corner site. The southern elevation is harled, while the northern and western elevations feature squared and snecked random rubble. The buildings have ashlar and squared rubble margins and small openings on the northern side, with part-glazed modern timber doors.

On the southern (entrance) elevation, cottages 1, 2, and 3 have bays to the center and right, featuring paired center doors and windows in the flanking bays, with slate-hung polygonal dormers above. The left bay has a door on the right and a blank bay on the outer left, with a canted dormer window above that extends into a single light flat-roofed dormer, both fitted with uPVC glazing. Cottage 4 has a door at the center on the ground floor, with windows in the flanking bays and two slate-hung polygonal-roofed dormers above.

The northern (Cameron Street) elevation shows cottages 1, 2, and 3 on the right with three windows and two small modern rooflights, while cottage 4 on the outer left has four windows and three large modern rooflights that are out of character. The western (Arduthie Street) elevation is gabled, featuring two windows and a band course.

The cottages predominantly have 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in modern timber windows, with grey slate roofs. The gablehead stacks are made of coped ashlar, and there are brick ridge stacks, all topped with cans. The ashlar-coped skews have flat skewputts on the western side.

Inside, cottage 4 features timber fire surrounds and cast-iron grates, while cottages 1, 2, and 3 were not seen in 2005.

The ancillary building and boundary wall consist of a flat-coped rubble boundary wall to the west, adjoining a small rectangular-plan lean-to rubble structure that was formerly a washhouse, which includes a round-arched window and door on the eastern side.
