Description
The Administration Block at Inverurie Hospital, designed by Robert Leslie Rollo between 1936 and 1940, is a two-storey, nine-bay, T-plan building that features a symmetrical International Modern style. It is located opposite the entrance of the hospital site and is constructed from smooth rendered and painted concrete blockwork. A deep cantilevered canopy extends over the central entrance and sidelights. The ground floor includes wide bowed and glazed flat-roofed end bays. The rear wing consists of a central two-storey, four-bay section and an additional four-bay single-storey horizontal section to the right, with a two-storey bowed window on the west elevation of the rear wing.
The flat roof overhangs the wall-heads at the rear and in some sections. The building features metal-framed casement windows, with predominantly eight-pane glazing on the ground floor and six-pane glazing on the first floor, while the rear wing has 16-pane glazing on the ground floor.
The interior, as observed in 2013, comprises offices along with a kitchen and dining room in the single-storey section to the north. It includes timber window seats in the bowed bays and radiators set in wall recesses. A pair of concrete and Terrazzo staircases flank the center, featuring a plaster wall balustrade with a horizontal flat timber handrail.
