Description
Forglen Free Church is a rectangular plan, three-bay church built between 1843 and 1846, oriented east-west, with a single-storey vestry attached to the east. The exterior is harled, featuring cream ashlar dressings, hoodmoulds, margins, and a bellcote.
The west elevation includes a pointed arched doorway set within an advanced, buttressed surround that rises to the bellcote. The doorway has a boarded door with decorative cast-iron hinges and a traceried fanlight above it. There is a rose window above the doorway and a small round window in the gable. The gabled ashlar bellcote contains a bell and has a moulded ashlar roof.
On the north elevation, there are three tall windows, while the south elevation has windows in the outer bays, both featuring simple Gothic tracery. The east elevation has the vestry at ground level, with a rose window above the gable. There is a door to the vestry on the south side and a window with lying-pane glazing to the right.
Inside, there is a balcony to the west, with two doors below that have Gothic surrounds. The interior features grained pews and a pulpit with a sounding board that encloses the rose window. The vestry has grey slates, ashlar coped skews, and a stack.
