Description
1 and 1A Bogie Street in Huntly is a large pair of shops and dwellings built in 1907. The building features a mansarded design with three storeys and five bays, constructed from granite ashlar. The gable facing Macdonald Street is shaped and has regular cherry-caulked granite.
The central entrance consists of a pair of round-headed doors flanked by polished red granite engaged Roman Doric columns. The shop on the right retains its original glazing and central door, while the shop on the left has a modern facade. The outer bays have two-storey canted windows on the first and second floors.
At the centre, there is a wall-head hipped and corniced chimney, adorned with an ornate datestone and flanked by pedimented dormers in the mansard roof. All windows feature original glazing, with multi-pane upper sashes and single pane plate-glass in the lower sashes. A deep balcony runs the full length of the building at the first floor level, supported by a decorative cast-iron balustrade and brackets.
The building has a heavy moulded eaves cornice, ball finials at the ends of the mansard gables, and corniced end stacks, topped with a slate roof. The gable end facing Macdonald Street includes bipartite windows at the centre on the ground and second floors, with symmetrical outer windows on the first floor.
