Description
St George's Episcopal Church, dated 1796, is a round-arched Georgian church, originally designed with a T-shaped plan. The exterior is simple harled, with granite dressings at the chancel. Repairs were undertaken in 1831 by John Gordon, a carpenter associated with Gordonstoun, and the chancel was altered in 1848 by Ross of Inverness. A south-west tower with a pyramid roof was added, along with a four-bay north arcade and a low aisle. In 1897, Arthur Clyne extended the chancel in his own distinctive round-arched style, incorporating red sandstone dressings in contrast to the granite dressings elsewhere. The work included a segmentally arched ceiling. The church remains in ecclesiastical use.
