Description
18 North High Street in Portsoy is a building dated 1727. It features three storeys and a dormerless attic, with an eight-bay street frontage. At the rear, there is a later 18th century, tall two-storey and dormerless attic wing over a raised basement, forming an L-plan on a sloping site. The exterior is harled with tooled ashlar margins and dressings. The regular frontage has a central round-headed arched pend that leads to rear entries and Low Street. The entry to number 16 is on the first floor to the right, featuring a non-traditional modern door and access via a stone forestair. There are rear entries to number 18 and number 20 in the long south elevation of the rear wing. The building has 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows throughout, except for 6-pane gable attic lights and a small rear raised basement window that was originally a store, with margins checked for shutters. The flat skews have shaped and run-off skewputts, and there are masonry end stacks with renewed copes, steeply pitched slate roofs, and a sandstone ridge.
