Description
Mains of Thornton is a building constructed shortly after 1744. It is two stories tall with a dormerless attic and features five windows with chamfered margins. The walls are notably battered, and there is a large area of blind wall above the first-floor windows. The building has a simple rectangular plan and includes a later single-storey piended back wing. Inside, the north ground floor room is simply panelled, and there is a straightforward railed stair with console treatment at the treads. The woodwork throughout the building is original.
