Description
19 Pennan is a house likely built by F & R West after 1837, possibly extended to the north. It is prominently located on the only road into the village, with its gable end facing the shore. The building is two stories high over a raised basement and features a three-bay design, situated on ground that slopes steeply to the north. The exterior is made of red sandstone rubble, with concrete rendered and lined to resemble ashlar on the east side, and painted ashlar margins that are slightly raised.
The entrance elevation faces the steep road to the east. The ground floor includes a small timber porch with windows flanking it to the left of center, a door immediately to the right, a lean-to timber porch beyond, and an additional window at the outer right above a small opening at the raised basement. The first floor has three regularly spaced windows. The rear elevation to the west is blank.
The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane and plate glass glazing patterns. The roof is covered with grey slates and features a modern rooflight. There are coped ashlar stacks with thackstanes and ashlar-coped skews with block skewputts.
