Description
The former Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, known as the Victoria Pavilion, is a three-storey building with a basement, constructed between 1887 and 1897 by W & J Smith and Kelly, with H Saxon Snell as a consultant. It features a splayed plan and is part of a significant 19th-century hospital complex in the centre of Aberdeen. The exterior is made of coursed granite and includes single and two-bay advanced gabled sections. Some of these sections on the main elevation are connected by balconies on the first and second floors, which are supported by steel beams and covered with interwar timber and glazed structures. The building predominantly has tall and narrow windows in timber frames, with segmental-arched windows at the basement and a variety of glazing patterns throughout. The roof is slate, topped with coped ashlar ridge stacks.
The interior was last seen in 2013 and has been largely remodelled, with no original fixtures evident.
