Aberdeen, Spa Street, Woolmanhill, Former Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Archive Block (Former Laundry)

The former laundry block of the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, located on Spa Street in Woolmanhill, was designed by W & J Smith and Kelly, with H Saxon Snell as the consultant, and built between 1887 and 1897. This five-storey building features a compact yet tall and irregular plan, with chamfered corners. It is part of a significant 19th-century hospital complex in the city center of Aberdeen. The exterior is constructed of coursed granite and includes segmental-arched openings at the ground floor. The north side has tall first-floor windows with 24-pane glazing set in timber frames, while the rest of the building predominantly features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with slate and has wallhead stacks supported by scrolled buttresses.

Inside, as observed in 2013, there is a stone cantilevered staircase and a single room on each floor, which is supported by iron columns and beams.
