Description

Ernan Lodge is a cottage orne house built in the later 19th century. It is two stories tall and has four bays, constructed from tooled, coursed dark grey granite with contrasting light grey finely finished margins. The building features a base course, projecting cills, gableted windows on the first floor that break the eaves, overhanging eaves, and decorative pierced timber bargeboards on the gablets, with simpler bargeboards on the main gables.

The principal elevation is asymmetrical, with a gabled penultimate bay on the right that is advanced. It has a three-light canted window on the ground floor and tripartite windows above on the first floor. There is a timber gableted porch in the re-entrant angle to the left, featuring a two-leaf panelled and glazed timber door, with a window above on the first floor. To the outer left, there is an advanced tripartite rectangular window on the ground floor, with a window above on the first floor. The outer right bay has regular fenestration on both the ground and first floors.

The northeast elevation is gabled, with windows that are off-centre to the right on both the ground and first floors. The northwest and southwest elevations were not seen in 1999.

The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, with small pane upper sashes. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a lead ridge. It features a coped wallhead, ridge and gablehead stacks with octagonal cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative top hoppers.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The boundary walls include a low coped granite wall to the southeast and coped rubble walls for the remainder.
