Description
Dunrobin is a villa located at 70 Rubislaw Den South in Aberdeen, designed by George Sutherland and Clement George in 1925. This two-storey and attic building features a two-bay layout, constructed from rough-faced dark grey granite ashlar, accented with finely finished light grey granite dressings. It has projecting cills, half-timbered gableheads, overhanging eaves, and timber bargeboards.
The south elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing a tripartite window on the ground floor of the left bay and a rectangular-plan gableted tripartite oriel window on the first floor. To the right, a gabled bay steps forward, featuring a five-light canted window on the ground floor and a tripartite window above on the first floor.
The east elevation is also asymmetrical, with a broad segmental-arched stair window at the center and windows that break the eaves to the right. The north elevation was not visible in 2000.
The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, is asymmetrical as well. It has a doorway on the right side of the ground floor, with a piend-roofed canopy supported by timber brackets. This entrance features a two-leaf panelled timber door flanked by leaded panels and a fanlight. There is a lean-to bay that is advanced at the ground floor of the right bay, with two-light windows breaking the eaves above and a small window with a timber lintel under the eaves to the right of the first floor.
The villa has predominantly timber-framed windows with geometrically leaded top hoppers, a grey slate roof with terracotta ridges, predominantly tapered wallhead stacks with circular cans, and cast-iron rainwater goods.
The interior was not seen in 2000. The property is complemented by square-plan rough-faced granite gatepiers to the south, with low granite walls between them, and brick and granite coped rubble walls surrounding the remainder of the site.
