Description

The Suspension Bridge in Dumfries, designed by John Willet of Aberdeen in 1875, is an iron footbridge with an approximate span of 200 feet. It features tall, distyle pylons made of slender Doric columns, which are connected by decorative and commemorative semi-elliptical lampholders, although the lamps are currently missing. The span of the bridge includes lattice balustrades, and the wide, splayed masonry approaches are complemented by iron railings topped with fleur de lys finials.
