Description
This is a small, single-storey vernacular house located on the north side of Derryboy Road, approximately 3.5 miles north of Crossgar. The house dates from around 1820 to 1839. The front (south) façade features a modern, partly-glazed door positioned centrally to the left. To the left of the door is a sash window with six-pane glazing, and two similar windows are located to the right of the door. The west gable has a similar sash window to the left at ground level, and a smaller window at the upper level with a two-pane sash window. The left side of this gable merges with the west face of a large, single-storey, flat-roofed extension, which incorporates a multi-pane casement window. Attached to the north gable is a timber outbuilding with a corrugated iron, gabled roof. The rear of the property is almost entirely covered by a large, single-storey extension with a flat roof and modern windows. The façade of the original house is finished in lined render and painted, while the extension’s render is plain. A bracketed eaves course is visible on the front. The original roof is gabled, covered in natural slate, and has two Velux windows to the rear. Three rendered chimney stacks are present. Cast iron rainwater goods are visible, as are a wrought iron farm gate to the west and a wrought iron pedestrian gate to the west. A large, flat-roofed extension was added around the 1960s. A house is indicated on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834, likely corresponding to the current building. In 1861, the house was recorded as belonging to Sarah Anderson.
