Description
A two-storey/ three-bay Victorian villa of simple classical proportions and symmetrical design on east side of Greencastle Street. It is abutted at left by the Kilmorey Arms Hotel (HB16/03/012), into which the interior has been incorporated. There is an identical house to its right, No.45 Greencastle Street (HB 16/03/014) Hipped natural slate roof with two two-stage rendered coped chimneys on ridge (one to either side of central bay). Half-round metal rainwater goods on projecting granite eaves. All walls are lined cement render over chamfered granite base course, with projecting ashlar quoins (pecked and fielded) to right corner of façade. Principal elevation faces to street. At ground floor centre is a four-panelled timber entrance door which is flanked by similar panelled and glazed sidelights and over which is a plain semicircular fanlight. This is set within a stugged granite post and block opening with flush keystone and impost blocks. To left and to right bay at ground floor is a single 2/2 (vertically divided) painted timber sliding sashes with painted granite cill. There are three similar windows to first floor, in line with ground floor openings but diminished in height. Left elevation is abutted by adjoining premises. Right elevation has a single 2/2 window (as those to façade) centred on each floor. That to ground floor is a plastic 1/1 bucket opener and to its right is a modern rectangular vent. The rear elevation is abutted on all but its first floor left bay by a modern function room which forms part of the adjoining hotel. Between the ground and first floors of the exposed wall of the main block is a 2/2 sash, with another between first and attic floors. The head of the latter breaks the line of the eaves. The frontage is set back and the area to street is enclosed by a dwarf chamfered granite wall with hoop-topped painted steel railings. There is a similar pair of gates hung from granite piers with domed caps. The rear yard still retains its embattled granite entrance gate posts, but the actual gateway in now infilled by a modern single storey escape lobby from the adjoining function room.
