Description

This is a two-storey, gabled farmhouse built in the 1860s, extended lengthways around 1954, and located on the slope of Old Church Hill, approximately one mile southwest of Seaforde, County Down. The house is situated north of Manse Road. It is of Georgian style, with an asymmetrical front facade facing roughly south. The front entrance features a PVC-glazed door with a semicircular arched head and a "spoke" fanlight, set within a simple rendered surround. To the left of the entrance is a window with a PVC frame designed to resemble original Georgian paned sash windows, also with a rendered surround. To the right of this window are two similar windows, followed by a large flat-roofed bay window with a PVC frame. The first floor has six evenly spaced windows mirroring the ground floor. The west gable is blank, while the east gable has a square window with a PVC frame on the first floor; a slightly smaller window is adjacent to it, also with a PVC frame. The rear elevation has five windows and a modern door on the ground floor and four windows on the first floor, all with PVC frames, and a modern door. The exterior is finished in painted rough cast. The roof overhangs slightly and incorporates two red brick chimney stacks, the eastern one being off-centre due to the 1954 extension. The roof is covered with natural slate to the front and artificial slate to the rear, featuring cast iron rainwater goods. The house was not depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1858 and was likely constructed in the 1860s. The property was acquired by the current owner's father in 1951, who then extended it eastwards in 1954.
