Description

This is one of three identical three-storey houses forming a small terrace on Kilmorey Street, Newry. The house dates to between 1900 and 1919. It retains its original façade and contributes to group value through its visual uniformity with the neighbouring properties.

The house is two bays wide and positioned centrally within the terrace. It features a natural slate gabled roof with a cement-rendered chimney on the left side. Half-round metal rainwater goods with a downpipe are shared with the adjacent property at number 17. The street-facing elevation has smooth, rendered walls above a raised base course, and projecting eaves. A granite step leads to the main entrance on the right-hand side, which features a painted four-panel, raised and fielded timber door with modern brass door furniture and a rectangular transom light above. The door opening has raised rendered jambs with strap consoles supporting a projecting entablature. A two-over-two vertically divided sliding sash window is located to the left of the entrance. Two identical windows appear on the first and second floors, aligned with the ground floor window but offset to the left. All windows have exposed window boxes, moulded architraves, and granite sills. The ground floor window is wider than those above, and the windows on the top floor are reduced in height. The house is abutted by its neighbours on both gable ends. The rear wall is cement-rendered with a projecting eaves course and plastic rainwater goods. An original two-storey natural slate gabled return projects to the left. To the right are plastic, hop-hung windows, one on each floor, and another at the top above the return. A further identical window is located at the top left, over the return. The return also has three top-hung windows on its right cheek at the first floor, while the ground floor is not visible from inspection at number 21.

The house was first documented in the 1903 valuation revision, suggesting it was constructed around this time.
